Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q1: What is the difference between a Research Scientist I and II?
A: The level of appointment (I or II) will be based on the candidate’s depth of experience, particularly post-Ph.D. A Research Scientist II typically requires a stronger record of independent research, project management, and publication. The salary range is the same for both levels, with placement determined by qualifications.

Q2: Is this a permanent position?
A: This is a full-time, professional research position. Funding is expected to be long-term, but it is typically contingent on the continued success and funding of the research program. Details about the specific term of appointment can be discussed with Dr. Nalam.

Q3: Is remote or hybrid work an option?
A: No. The posting specifies this is a fully in-person position due to the hands-on nature of the work in the field, greenhouses, and labs located in Fort Collins, CO.

Q4: What does the application review process look like?
A: The search committee will begin reviewing complete applications on October 16, 2025. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an initial interview, likely via video conference. Finalists may be invited for a second-round, on-campus interview.

Q5: Does this position involve teaching or student advising?
A: The primary focus of this role is research. However, there will be opportunities to mentor graduate students and interns, and involvement in academic activities is encouraged but not required.

Q6: Are visa and relocation support available for this position?
A: Colorado State University may provide sponsorship for a work visa for a qualified candidate. Relocation support is not explicitly mentioned; this would be a point of discussion during the offer negotiation stage.
