Politecnico di Torino makes available, for the 41st cycle, funding corresponding to a minimum of 96 PhD scholarships. These PhD positions will be distributed between the two sessions. The definite number of positions available for each session and each PhD Programme will be finalized in the present page within 6 days before the date of the oral interviews set by each Admissions Committee and published in accordance with the provisions set in art. 9 of the Call.

PhD Programmes in Italy 2025 Applications for the 41st cycle are invited for the following PhD programmes;

The beginning of the above-mentioned PhD programmes of the 41st cycle is subject to prior accreditation by the Ministry of University and Research in compliance with current legislation. A possible negative outcome of the accreditation procedure and/or of the renewal of the aforementioned agreements, which would hinder the activation of the course, will be promptly communicated to the applicants through the Ticketing Support System as indicated in art. 20.

All PhD programmes will start at Politecnico di Torino on 1st November 2025 for successful applicants in the first session of the selection process, and on 1st March 2026 for successful applicants in the second session, as referred to in art. 5 and art. 7, par. 1 of the present Call.

Positions and scholarships:

Available positions are divided into:

Ordinary positions

  • Fully-funded PhD positions with own research topic
  • Fully-funded PhD positions with predefined research topic
  • PhD positions offered in apprenticeship format
  • PhD positions without scholarship.

Reserved positions

  • PhD positions reserved to students who receive a scholarship funded by governments or by national or foreign public bodies, who are eligible to be admitted to a PhD Programme
  • PhD positions reserved to Research Fellows
  • PhD positions in the framework of the PoliTo for Refugees Project.

Some positions are reserved to candidates selected by special Boards within the framework of specific international programmes in which Politecnico di Torino is involved.

PhD Programmes in Italy 2025 – Nature and Amount

PhD scholarships last one year and are renewed from year to year provided that PhD candidates have fulfilled the coursework requirements and have been admitted to the next year by the Academic Board. Scholarships are disbursed for a maximum of 36 months, unless otherwise provided by art. 36, par. 2 of the Regulations for doctoral programmes of Politecnico di Torino.

The gross annual amount of a PhD scholarship for the A.Y. 2025/26 is € 18.854,52, including social security contributions charged to the scholarship recipient. The net monthly rate is € 1.386,00 (unless welfare rates change). Scholarship recipients are exempted from paying the local income tax and the personal income tax (IRPEF).

Admissions Requirements:

In order to apply for a PhD Programme, applicants must meet the following requirements on the deadline for application submission for each session.

  • Master’s degree (Laurea Magistrale) or Laurea specialistica or academic degree belonging to the university system pre-dating M.D. no. 509 of 3rd November 1999, as amended by M.D. no. 270 of 22nd October 2004 – with minimum final grade: 95/110.
  • English language certificate – level B2, as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), regardless of the date of conferral.
  • Applicants with a non-Italian academic qualification can be admitted to a PhD Programme only if they have a second-level degree (as defined by the Bologna Process) or a Master’ degree awarded by an officially recognized/accredited academic institution which grants admission to PhD programmes in the country of origin (level 8 EQF).

Applicants interested in competing for one or more PhD scholarships with predefined research topic and/or in any PhD positions offered in apprenticeship format must carefully check the research topic and competencies required to carry out the specific research project, illustrated in the information sheet of each scholarship (they can contact the Professor associated with the scholarship, if needed).
